The Journey Begins: From Delhi’s Chaos to Uttarakhand’s Calm
We started on a humid evening in Delhi, boarding a ₹500 Volvo bus to Rishikesh. A sleeper seat, a power bank, and a few downloaded playlists were enough to kick off what would become one of the most soulful journeys we’ve ever taken.
Pro Tip: Book your Volvo online through platforms like RedBus or UTC to avoid last-minute rate hikes.
Upon reaching Rishikesh early morning, you’ll feel the shift instantly—cooler air, slower pace, and the quiet hum of the Ganga nearby. From there, we boarded a local bus for ₹550 to Govind Ghat, the base point for the Valley of Flowers trek.
Sit on the left side of the bus for surreal views of Alaknanda river bends and deep valleys.
The Route Map in Short
(Bookmark this for your trip!)
Delhi → Rishikesh (Volvo) – ₹500
Rishikesh → Govind Ghat (Local Bus) – ₹550
Govind Ghat → Pulna (Shared Taxi) – ₹50
Pulna → Ghangaria (9 km trek or pony) – ₹0 to ₹1,000
Ghangaria → Valley of Flowers (4 km trek one way)
Ghangaria → Hemkund Sahib (6 km trek one way)
If you’re short on time, there’s also a helicopter ride from Govind Ghat to Ghangaria costing around ₹6,000, but honestly, it kills the joy of the trek. And the trek is the soul of this journey.
Where We Stayed (And You Can Too)
Govind Ghat – Hotel Shubham (₹700–₹1000/night). Clean, basic, and great food.
Ghangaria – We stayed at a local guesthouse for ₹1,250/night. Shared rooms and power cuts, but the people made us feel at home.
You can also stay at Gurudwaras in both towns if you’re on a tighter budget. Humble, safe, and full of kindness.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

🚫 Don't start your trek too late. Post-lunch rains are a reality. Start by 7AM.
🚫 Avoid throwing trash on the trail. Locals carry stories of fairies protecting the valley. Respect the myth.
